Take Your Child to a Bookstore Day: December 3

The title of this post should be self-explanatory, but there's a larger story around this lovely event.

Jenny Milchman, a mother herself, used to taking her children for weekly storytimes at a local bookstore, began to wonder how many children actually experienced the delights of their local bookstore. Over time, the idea of creating a Take Your Child to a Bookstore Day developed, and last summer, Jenny and her family hopped in the car and drove cross-country, from New Jersey to Oregon, visiting independent bookstores along the way and encouraging them to promote this event. Book bloggers, listservs, and other people in the industry picked it up, so that now on the second annual Take Your Child to a Bookstore Day on December 3, 2011, around 150 stores across the country will be participating.
