Shameless bit of self-promotion:
I've been invited to read my unpublished work of YA (young adult/teen) fiction aloud at a new lecture series in the Boston area begun by a current Simmons College grad student. If anyone is in the Boston area on November 16th and would like to hear me, and three other writers, one of them published, read their work, stop on by. Here are the details:
Jimmy Matejek is very good at procrastinating. He
is also easily distracted. Wait. What was I doing? Oh yeah. I think I
was talking about Rudy. He is the world’s greatest (and cutest) little
friend and biggest distraction, all in one convenient dog. He is sadly
not the star in any of the novels Jimmy is currently working on, but he
does make the occasional cameo. Jimmy received his M.A. and M.F.A. from
Simmons college, but that isn’t about Rudy so you probably aren’t
interested. (Pictures are available upon request.) (Of Rudy, not of
Jimmy or his degree, but if you request pictures of those, we would be
happy to accommodate.)

Wednesday, Nov. 16, 2011
6:30 - 8:00 pm
The main branch of the Brookline Public Library
Teen Room
(catered by kookoo's nest; sponsored by the Friends of the Library)
It's a series! Join us in the Teen Room every third Wednesday for
readings and a panel discussion by up-and-coming authors for teens and
children. Speak to them after in a reception catered by the library's
cafe, kookoo's nest.
They write for younger audiences, but all are welcome!
Come hear from our panel of authors as they read what they have in
the works. Discuss what it takes to turn ideas into manuscripts and
manuscripts into published novels.
This month, we'll be hearing from:
Julie Berry
Sandra Budiansky
Broche Fabian
Jimmy Matejek

A bit more about them:
Julie Berry lives in Maynard with her husband,
four sons, and two girl cats. She is the author of The Amaranth
Enchantment (2009, Bloomsbury) Secondhand Charm (2010, Bloomsbury), and
the Splurch Academy for Disruptive Boys series (Penguin Books, 2010-11).
She earned her MFA in writing from Vermont College of the Fine Arts.
She works in software sales and marketing, and is working on two new
book projects now. Find her online at www.julieberrybooks.com.
Sandra Budiansky has a MFA in Writing for Children
from Simmons College. Currently she is home raising her two young boys
and tries to squeeze in writing whenever she can. Her Words With Friends
ID is lucry.
Her parents say Broche Fabian taught herself how
to read because they would eventually fall asleep while reading to her
at night. A former library assistant, children's bookseller, children's
editorial intern, and currently working for Beacon Press, Broche has
chosen to make books her career. After reading so many, she decided to
try writing her own and earned an MFA from Simmons College. Slowly
working on YA manuscripts and picture books, Broche blogs book reviews
and industry news at WildlyRead.blogspot.com.
That's fantastic! I surely wish I could be around to hear you read from your NYP book!
